Server type describes the core ruleset of a realm: whether open-world PvP is enforced, which language the community uses, and sometimes the overall progression philosophy. Choosing the right type matters as much as choosing the right version, since it shapes your day-to-day gameplay experience.
On PvP realms, players from opposing factions can attack each other in the open world, adding constant tension to questing and farming. PvE realms disable involuntary open-world combat, so confrontations happen only in designated battlegrounds and arenas, letting players focus on cooperative content.
Rates are experience and reputation multipliers that control how fast a character progresses: x1 is blizzlike (slow, true to the original), while higher rates such as x5 or x100 speed up leveling significantly. Rates are technically separate from PvP/PvE type but are often listed together because they together define the overall server experience.
Russian realms serve a Russian-speaking community and typically offer Russian-language support, localized announcements, and a familiar social environment. International realms operate in English and draw players from many countries, which generally means a larger combined player base but also higher ping for users in Russia and the CIS.
